It is anticipated that 50% of women will experience prolapse after the birth of their first child, and the risk increases with age, childbearing and constipation.[/vc_column_text][us_separator size=”custom” height=”10px”][us_image image=”347″ size=”full” align=”left” animate=”fade”][us_separator size=”custom” height=”10px”][vc_column_text css=”%7B%22default%22%3A%7B%22max-width%22%3A%22600px%22%7D%7D”]Management includes comprehensive assessment and elimination of the factors contributing to the downward descent. The pelvic floor muscles are located under the pelvic organs and provide essential support.  There is extensive research to validate pelvic floor muscle training as an effective first-line treatment for prolapse and can help to avoid surgical correction.

Treatment can include:

  • Pelvic floor assessment
  • Prolapse measurement and staging to identify the risk
  • Individualised pelvic floor strengthening program
  • Lifestyle modification advice
  • Constipation prevention advice
  • Return to sports/leisure recommendation
  • Pessary management
  • Pre-surgical preparation
  • Post-surgical rehabilitation
  • Return to sex help
